In Marseille, Two KEDGE Graduates Launch Dermelia!
Graduates of KEDGE in 2012, Kaëlig Brunel and her partner Michaël launch Dermelia: an aesthetic medicine center in Marseille.

1️⃣ To begin, tell us about your academic background: what programs did you follow at KEDGE and before joining KEDGE?
Originally from the Lille region, where I completed all my studies including two years of preparatory classes, I chose to apply to KEDGE—then called Euromed—for the quality of its teaching, its campus, and its city! Coming from a modest background, I had to take out a loan to finance my first year of the Bachelor program and was able to join the ESC program in 2010. For my two Master years, I had the opportunity to do a work-study program at Groupe Renault. Those three years at KEDGE were enriching and the most defining of my life, both professionally and personally. In fact, I met Michaël, also a student at KEDGE and a true Marseillais, who is now my husband and business partner.
2️⃣ Tell us about your journey after graduation: what positions did you hold? What did those roles teach you?
After graduation, Michaël and I decided to move to Saint-Martin in the Caribbean. I worked as a sales representative in advertising, both on the French and Dutch sides of the island. This experience helped me develop strong interpersonal skills and a solid sense of business. After a year, we decided to return to Marseille, where we began working in the field of aesthetic medicine—a world that was still unfamiliar to us at the time. Michaël was in charge of creating and developing centers, while I managed operations. It was one of the most educational experiences of our lives. We faced the realities of entrepreneurship and the challenges of running a business.
3️⃣ What is your current project/situation? How did the idea and desire to do what you do today come about?
After several years and with those experiences under our belt, we decided to launch our own aesthetic medicine center—just the two of us. Challenge accepted: we opened our first center in Marseille in fall 2019—Dermelia. We truly enjoyed working as a couple (yes, it’s possible!) and surprisingly, we loved the field of aesthetic medicine. But what is aesthetic medicine? If the concept was unclear to us back then, it probably still is for many people today. Aesthetic medicine consists of medical treatments aimed at improving physical appearance without surgery. In our center, we mainly offer permanent laser hair removal, but we also provide anti-aging treatments. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, working in this field is rewarding because we help people feel better and more in tune with their bodies. The psychological dimension is a key factor in our work.
4️⃣ What are your development goals for the future?
In the medium term, we aim to offer innovative treatments and a unique concept (teasing…). In the long term, we’d like to open several centers across France and Europe.
5️⃣ Have you received any awards or recognition (press coverage, support) for your project?
Our project is still relatively new, so we haven’t yet received feedback or recognition.
How did your education at KEDGE Business School help you become who you are today, and how did its teachings support your project’s development?
My experience at KEDGE was pivotal. It was during those three years that I gained skills in business management and entrepreneurship—and where I met my life and business partner. Thanks to KEDGE, I built a strong professional network, especially in Marseille, which helped accelerate certain phases of our project’s creation.
6️⃣ If you had to give one piece of advice to KEDGE graduates who want to follow in your footsteps, what would it be?
Follow in my footsteps? If that means taking risks to be free, then I’d say GO FOR IT! Starting a business isn’t always easy—you’ll face setbacks—but if you persevere, the satisfaction is so great that all those struggles feel distant and insignificant. It’s essential to feel fulfilled professionally, and if entrepreneurship is the path to that, then it’s worth it. Take your shot! Remember: fortune favors the bold…
7️⃣ Anything else to add—a message to share (call for votes, fundraising, etc.)?
As you’ve understood, Dermelia is a new center and needs to grow in visibility. We’re counting on the KEDGE community to help grow our project, and that starts with getting to know us. We even have a partnership with the school offering students a 20% discount on all our treatments! Needless to say, this offer also applies to alumni. Don’t hesitate to spread the word and come visit us at our center.
