A poignant documentary on the issues surrounding the ocean, illegal fishing, overfishing, climate change and surfing ... all themes that encourage us to think and act. The Philippines, the jewel of Southeast Asia, is a country of more than 7,000 islands. The Filipino way of life is intimately linked to the ocean and its resources, on which most of the population depends. Today, these resources are greatly threatened by intensive fishing, the use of illegal techniques such as dynamite and cyanide, as well as rising temperatures and ocean acidification, which are having a considerable impact on the rapid destruction of coral reefs. Once again, Nomads proves its commitment to the protection of ecosystems through an outrageous documentary.
The marine reserve
The Banua Marine Reserve is located on an island off the coast of Coron, on the west coast of the Philippines. This is the land of the Tagbanuas, one of the archipelago's oldest ethnic groups, direct descendants of the first Filipino men. Their island lifestyle, focused on the ocean, makes them an extraordinary community.
This pristine island boasts exceptional tropical flora and fauna. Dugongs, turtles and manta rays are just some of the underwater treasures to be found here. But this fragile balance is now under threat. The Tagbanuas and Scott, the founder of the association, fight every day to protect this sanctuary. The success of their project will determine the future of this sanctuary.
Surfing, an unspoilt jewel
The Nomads Surfing team came to the reserve to discover some unusual, exclusive and extraordinary waves. Unfortunately, the fickle weather in the China Sea meant that the team had to make do with a lack of waves during the shoot. We did, however, discover and surf a few beautiful spots for the first time on some of the islands.

About Nomads Surfing:
Nomads Surfing is the story of three friends, Basile, Nicolas and Thomas, all passionate surfers and globe-trotters. Aware of the growing popularity of surfing and the industry's impact on the planet, notably due to the materials used for surfing (surfboards, accessories, wetsuits), the founders decided to take action on their own scale, in order to preserve the environment and the ocean.
Nomads Surfing innovates to create surf and lifestyle products that contribute to protecting the Ocean. The brand offers eco-boards with a reduced carbon footprint, fins made in France from recycled fishing nets (a first in Europe), a grip made in France from recycled wine corks, and a leash made from used seatbelts and wetsuits.
Nomads Surfing also donates 5% of its sales to three associations whose projects it supports.
Since 2021, the company has been a member of the ESS (social and solidarity enterprise) and is in the process of obtaining BCORP certification.
